Comet Promise: Your Affordable Path to College
Coconino Community College believes cost shouldn’t stand in the way of your education. That’s why we created Comet Promise, a tuition support program designed to make college accessible for more students in Coconino County. If you qualify, CCC will cover any remaining tuition after other financial aid is applied, so you can focus on your goals without worrying about cost.
What sets Comet Promise apart?
Unlike most Promise programs that require full-time enrollment, CCC extends this opportunity to part-time students taking six or more credits per semester. Whether you’re starting fresh, returning to finish your degree, or balancing work and family, there’s a place for you at CCC.
Who is Eligible?
To qualify, students must meet all eligibility requirements unless an exception is noted.
Residency or Local Connection
- Lived in Coconino County for at least 12 months before the semester begins, OR
- Graduated from a Coconino County high school, homeschool program or earned a GED/HSE while living in Coconino County.
Note: Tuition classification may still show “out-of-county,” but you may still qualify.
Aid Application Requirement
Students must submit one of the following:
- FAFSA for the academic year, OR
- CCC Alternative Aid Application (for students unable to complete FAFSA)
Financial Eligibility
Students qualify through income-based eligibility or as automatic qualifiers.
Income-based:
- Household income equal to or under $65,000
- Pell not received or does not fully cover tuition
Automatic Qualifiers (income not required):
- Proposition 308 eligible students (DREAMers)
- Students with parental refusal to sign FAFSA (with documentation)
- Former foster youth (up to age 26)
- Students experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity
- Honorably discharged veterans using VA education benefits
- Students approved for dependency overrides or hardship circumstances
Enrollment Requirement
- Must be enrolled in 6+ credits per semester
- Must be degree- or certificate-seeking
Academic Progress
Students must meet CCC’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards.
How the Award Works
The Comet Promise is a last-dollar award:
- Other aid (Pell, grants, scholarships) applies first.
- Comet Promise covers remaining tuition costs.
Awards are limited to four semesters and depend on available funding each year.

Do I need to complete a FAFSA form?
All students, with the exception of undocumented and Dreamer status students, must complete both the FAFSA and their Financial Aid file to determine eligibility.
What if my parents are unable to sign the FAFSA?
If your parents are unable to sign the FAFSA, please complete the Comet Promise form to determine your eligibility.
What do I do if I am a DACA, Dreamer, or undocumented student?
Please complete the Comet Promise form
Can I get money for books and other costs?
The Comet Promise program will only pay CCC tuition that is not paid for by the Pell Grant. It does not pay for books, housing, transportation or any other charges that are not tuition. We recommend that you complete the FAFSA form and/or seek scholarships.
Priority Consideration - AZCC Promise Requirement – ARS §15-1705

- Are first-generation college students or have significant financial need
