A. Dudley Gardner, PhD

Interim Provost

A. Dudley Gardner, PhD., is Interim Provost at Coconino Community College, where he has demonstrated a singular commitment to improve the quality of post-secondary education in northern Arizona. Dr. G.” earned his PhD. in History, with an emphasis in Archaeology, from the University of New Mexico in 2000. He received his Master’s in History from Colorado State University in 1980. He served as a professor for more than 30 years at Western Wyoming Community College and taught a wide variety of courses that included: Archaeological Field Methods, North American Indian History, American History, U.S. West and Wyoming History, Chinese Civilization, History of Civilization, Western Civilization, Sociology and Government. Dr. G has worked in the field as an archaeologist and an historian since 1975, and he continues to travel to lend his expertise to digs around the world. He lectures often around the country and the world, and he has published five books and contributed chapters to six other books, including collaborations with the author Annie Proulx. In addition, he has published numerous articles dealing with history and archaeology. His specialty is the Formative Period and 18th century Archaeology from around the Pacific Rim. He also has conducted extensive archaeological excavations in Western Colorado and Wyoming.



Ron Hurle

Chief Innovation Officer/Vice President

Mr. Hurle joined the College in the Summer of 2017.  He oversees the IT department and is responsible for developing partnerships and enhancing innovative funding options for the college.  Ron Hurle comes to us from the private sector and has served as an integral member of the senior executive staff throughout his career.  Working as Director, Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Information Officer for NCS Pearson, Intel, Grand Canyon Association and CalPERS with responsibility to set strategic direction through sound leadership to ensure the organization achieves its mission, financial objectives, and ultimate value to all stakeholders.  Ron’s relationship to Coconino County was strengthened while he served as the Chief Operating Officer for the Grand Canyon Association.  A non-profit partner to the National Park Service.  "Living on the south rim of the Grand Canyon and working with a dedicated group of people to protect such an amazing natural wonder was truly a honor.  I hope to always be a part of this region and contribute with its protection and growth."


Gonzalo Perez

Associate Vice President for Innovative Learning Solutions

Dr. Gonzalo Perez is a young educator, passionate about his mission of making higher education available to all minority students. Professionally, Dr. Perez is the Associate Vice Present of Innovative Learning Solutions at Coconino Community College in Flagstaff, Arizona. Dr.  Perez teaches various courses in Computer Science and Information Systems studies and his research interests include information security and biometrics.  Previous to his career in academia, Dr. Perez worked as a project manager with Nielsen Media Research in New York City and worked closely with top media companies such as NBC, HBO, Univision and Viacom.  He earned his Doctoral degree from Pace University (NY) in applied computing in 2015.  Gonzalo looks forward to leveraging his experience and passion for education to the community of Coconino County and beyond!


April Sandoval

Executive Assistant to the President

Ms. Sandoval manages the Office of the President and supports the District Governing Board and College Council.  After completing an Associates Degree in Administration of Justice at Coconino Community College in 2004, April went on to complete a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelors Degree in Public Agency Service (emphasis in Public Administration) at Northern Arizona University in 2007. She also completed a Masters Degree in Administration (emphasis in Professional Writing) in May of 2015.  All degrees were completed with the highest honors and April credits her success in education to the foundation she received from the amazing faculty and staff at Coconino Community College.   Prior to coming to CCC, April served as Graduate Admisssions Coordinator and Administrative Associate (School of Forestry) for Northern Arizona University.  


Dietrich Sauer

Executive Director of Human Resources

Dietrich Sauer joined the College in 2017 as Executive Director of Human Resources and oversees the CCC Human Resources department. Prior to FUSD, Mr. Sauer held positions in the private sector with several Fortune 500 organizations including: Deckers Brands (the makers of Teva and Ugg Australia Footwear) as their E-commerce HR Leader; Deluxe Corporation (banking and small business services) as their Area Human Resources manager supporting manufacturing plants, distribution centers and customer service centers throughout North America; Carson Industries (Plastics Manufacturer with seven global locations) as their Director of Human Resources.  His passion is championing positive employee relations and engagement to make his organization a best place to work and an employer of choice in its’ industry and geographic location.   


Scott Talboom

Scott Talboom

Executive Director of Institutional Advancement

Scott began his career as the Executive Director for the Northern Arizona District, American Cancer Society (ACS) and was later promoted to the Executive Director for Southern Arizona (ACS). He returned to Flagstaff as an account executive and was promoted to the sales manager role for NBC affiliate KNAZ TV. Scott owned and operated Talboom Advertising and Public Relations, a successful full-service advertising and public relations agency for nearly 17 years, where he created and managed an account list that billed more than half a million dollars at its peak. As the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement, Scott is the Chief Public Information Officer for the College and Executive Director of the CCC Foundation overseeing all marketing, public relations, college publications and branding as well as the management of the Foundation, a 501(c) (3) non-profit. Scott is a 1982 alumnus of Northern Arizona University with Bachelor of Science in Journalism/Advertising. He recently earned a Certificate in Fundraising Management (CFRM) from Indiana University.


Jami Van Ess

Executive Vice President

Ms. Van Ess oversees the operations of Accounting and Finance, Budgeting, Facilities and Security, Information Technology Services, Purchasing and Auxiliary Services, Registration and Enrollment Services, and Student Financial Aid and Veterans Services. Prior to joining the College in 1998, she was the Vice President for Administrative Services at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Illinois. Ms. Van Ess received her bachelors of science degree in accountancy from Northern Arizona University and a master’s in business administration from the University of Phoenix. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Arizona.
