Part-Time Employee Benefits

Participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) for all part-time or temporary employees who work 20 hours or more per week for at least 20 weeks (does not have to be consecutive) within the fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).
The Arizona State Retirement System is a defined benefit retirement program. Benefits to members of this program include retirement benefits, survivor benefits, long-term disability, and group health insurance coverage for retired or disabled members and health insurance premium benefits.
Long Term Disability Benefits
Long Term Disability Insurance is provided as a benefit under your retirement plan. This program provides you with a monthly benefit designed to partially replace income lost during periods of total disability resulting from a covered injury, sickness or pregnancy.
The following are voluntary benefits and premiums / contributions are funded 100% by the employee:
Supplemental Retirement Savings Plans
403(b) and 457(b) Programs
A variety of companies offer a convenient way to set money aside, tax free, for future needs, such as education and retirement.
The Companies available for the 403(b) and 457(b) plans are ING, VALIC, The Hartford, VALIC, MetLife, and Security Benefit.
Flexible Benefit Plan
Part-time staff may sign up to participate in the Flexible Benefit Plan as a way to save pre-tax dollars on qualified health, dental and dependent care expense. This benefit is administered through Health Equity.
Part-Time Staff are eligible for seven (7) credit hours per semester that may be shared between themselves or a dependent for reimbursement of 100% of the in-state standard tuition. For part-time employees who are employed in multiple positions, this benefit will be calculated based only on the primary position.
Part-Time Faculty are eligible to have one (1) credit hour reimbursed for every credit hour taught not to exceed seven (7) credit hours per semester that may be shared between themselves or a dependent for reimbursement of 100% of the in-state standard tuition. Credit hours will be reimbursed for part-time faculty members for the same semester they are teaching, or the immediate semester following the semester they taught in the same fiscal year.
Reimbursement is conditional on a final grade of A or B or C (or equivalent) and a pass in a designated pass/fail class. Reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disability Act and Amendment Act may be made with consultation of the Director of Human Resources and the Disability Resources Coordinator.
