Community steps up to help CCC Food Pantry

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - When the word went out that the food pantry for students at Coconino Community College was running a little low on supplies, community members got busy.

In no time, the pantry was full, and staff had to find more shelving for the donated items.

“The students really appreciate it,” said Charli Hausam, Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs Services Advisor and School Certifying Official. “For some of them, it may be the only meal they have while at school.”

Hausam added that several universities and colleges in the state have food pantries.

“It’s become very apparent there’s a need,” Hausam said, adding that the expense of higher education can sometimes lead to difficult choices with budgets. The food pantry helps those students who need that little extra help.

She said the CCC Food Pantry gets, on average, about 20 students a week. Most come in for a cup of soup, or a light snack, while they are at school, but others come in for food items to take home with them to help make ends meet.

Last week, CCC announced that the food pantry was getting low on supplies and members of the Boys and Girls Club of Flagstaff got into gear along with faculty, staff, students, residents and members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. In no time the pantry was full.

The CCC Food Pantry is located in Veteran Services at the Lone Tree Campus, 2800 S. Lone Tree Road. Another CCC Food Pantry is located at the Fourth Street Campus, 3000 N. Fourth St. For more information, contact Charli Hausam at 928-226-4219, or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
