Our high achieving students routinely transfer to NAU and other four year institutions that have honors colleges. Unfortunately, our students have not been able to join an Honors College at a university because they have not accumulated any honors credits at Coconino Community College. There is now a solution to this problem. Here at CCC, we have developed honors versions of the following classes that will be offered on a regular basis:
- English 102 H (Composition)
- HUM 241 H (Humanities)
- HUM 242 H (Humanities)
- PHIL 101H (Introduction to Philosophy)
- PHIL 105H (Introduction to Ethics)
NAU Honors College
We also have an agreement in place with NAU that any student who graduates with a GPA of 3.3 or higher and who has completed a minimum of 9 credit hours of CCC honors courses will gain automatic membership to the NAU Honors College. More information about the NAU Honors College can be found on the NAU Honors Page.

Brief descriptions of each course
HUM 241H and HUM 242H: Have you ever wondered what it means to be human? If so, these are the classes for you! Humanities I & II provide a sprawling overview of the cultural development of human civilizations from prehistory to the present. Specifically, these courses are designed to investigate how people throughout history have expressed their humanity through such diverse disciplines as literature, philosophy, religion, the visual and performing arts, architecture, etc. Students in the honors cohort will work closely with their instructor to complete enhanced writing assignments. They will also have the opportunity to engage with their surrounding community through extracurricular experience projects completed under the instructor’s supervision.
ENG 102H: Join us for a rich exploration of print and electronic texts as we deepen our understanding of analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating diverse arguments. In the ENG 102 Honors cohort, you'll work closely with your instructor and peers to craft enhanced compositions while mastering the writing and research processes vital for academic, professional, and personal success. Beyond the classroom, you'll have opportunities to cultivate your skills through community involvement, engaging in assignments that connect your learning with real-world applications–all while honing your rhetorical power.
Enroll in ENG 102H now and unlock your potential for excellence both in and out of the classroom!
PHI 101H: Philosophers study the most foundational questions there are in relation to what types of things exist and how we gain knowledge of what is real. Together we will examine the conditions under which we have free-will, discuss the nature of knowledge and fend off skeptical challenges, and explore what it means to be a person and how this relates to our humanity. We will look at the existence of abstract objects such as numbers and ask “Does God Exist?” As an honors enrolled student you will have enhanced writing assignments and extra-curricular engagement.
PHI 105H: This is an ethics course. Nothing determines the quality of our lives together more than the set of values we live by and the obligations we fulfill towards one another as fellow citizens and fellow humans. What did Plato and Aristotle say about the good life? What did John Rawls have to say about the ideal conditions under which a truly just set of laws and institutions could emerge? What are our obligations towards citizens of the world who live under the world poverty line? Let’s explore these questions together. As an honors enrolled student you will have enhanced writing assignments and extra-curricular engagement.
