Pathways Program for Single Moms Overview

Arizona has among the highest number of nonprofit organizations per capita in the entire nation, yet at least 500,000 mothers and their families are living on the margins. Many women are interested in going back to school to get into a career track that provides a living wage. However, low wages, rising tuition costs, and child care challenges often provide a barrier to success.

To address these challenges, Coconino Community College, in partnership with the Women’s Foundation for the State of Arizona (WFSA), has created a pilot program of wraparound support for single mothers that helps them get certifications for careers with worthy wages, to break the cycle of poverty for women and their families.

In addition to assisting in navigating the enrollment process, the program provides for up to 100% of tuition and childcare expenses for children ages 0-15 years old, as well as a stipend for living expenses and support for accessing community and workforce resources for the duration of the program.

The Pathways Program for Single Moms program enables single mothers to earn a credit-bearing Career & Technical Education (CTE) certificate, preparing them for careers in growing fields that pay a sustainable wage and the opportunity to advance.

Moms who are also eligible for childcare with children aged 0-5 years old will receive support applying to  the First Things First-Quality First scholarship. Other childcare resources are available for children aged 5-15 years old.
