CCC students shine at All-Arizona Academic Team ceremony

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- On Feb. 22, 2011, Coconino Community College students Cathleen Goodell and Kelly Miller were recognized for their academic achievements by being appointed to the All-Arizona Academic First Team during a special recognition ceremony in Tempe.

The All-Arizona Academic Team celebrates the outstanding academic achievements of students enrolled in Arizona community colleges. Each community college may submit two nominations per campus to the Phi Theta Kappa organization for judging. Evaluations are based on GPA of 3.5 or higher, good academic standing while working toward an associate degree, and community volunteering or involvement on campus.

Both Goodell and Miller have the opportunity to be recognized in nationals. With this placement, both students earned a $1,000 scholarship, and a tuition waiver that will cover 60 credits at any Arizona university, paid for by Phi Theta Kappa, American Association of Community Colleges, Arizona Community Colleges, Arizona Board of Regents and USA TODAY

This appointment also qualifies both Goodell and Miller for the national All-USA Academic Team, where they will have the opportunity to be recognized nationally, and apply for Coco-Cola Foundation Scholarships. Only 20 students will be nominated to be a part of this team, and if chosen both Goodall and Miller could be featured in USA TODAY, receive $2,500 in stipends, a medallion and a certificate.

In addition to their many volunteer activities, both are student representatives on the Coconino Community College Foundation Board.
