CCC donates computers to The Literacy Center

The Literacy Center received a gift from CCC. Doug King, left, CCC's Assistant Director of Client Services, helps Rachel Gregory, center, Program Director at TLC, and Dianna Sanchez, right, Executive Director of TLC, load up computers for TLC students.

Flagstaff, Ariz. - Coconino Community College donated six computers to The Literacy Center to help the organization continue its mission of “literacy for all.”

Doug King, CCC’s Assistant Director of Client Services, said that over the past six years, CCC has donated dozens of “out-of-life-cycle” computers to schools and educationally based organizations in Coconino County.

“All of the computers are donated with a clear understanding that they will be used by the students for educational purposes,” King said. “The idea is to get the computers in the hands of students to help them become more familiar with the technologies that they will encounter in the real world.”

The donated computers have passed the life-cycle of usefulness for CCC students, faculty and staff, but they continue to offer educational benefit. Some schools and organizations that have received computers from CCC are the Flagstaff, Page, Grand Canyon and Williams unified school districts; Northland Preparatory Academy; Flagstaff Junior Academy; Flagstaff Community Christian School; the Coconino Association for Vocations, Industry and Technology; and now The Literacy Center.

Dianna Sanchez, Executive Director at TLC, said that the nonprofit’s current computers have outlived their usefulness by several years.

“Thanks to the generosity of CCC, our learners will now have access to updated and current technology,” Sanchez said. “This contribution will have a direct impact on our learners’ abilities to achieve their educational goals. Thank you, CCC!”

The mission of The Literacy Center is “to increase the basic English language and literacy skills of adults, teens and families in order to improve the quality of personal, economic and community life for all.”
