Use of NAU's Cline Library resources increases

Flagstaff, Ariz. -- The Cline Library merger was finalized in July 2010, and knowledge of the available resources started out slow, but is now catching on like wildfire thanks in part to the efforts of Library Resources Coordinator, Este Pope.  Included in her efforts to spread the word, Pope has been visiting classes to explain what resources are available and how to access them. There are also 3 PC laptops available for checkout only for students with CCC comet IDs at NAU’s Cline Library. The progression of use has begun to skyrocket, with 7 instances where all three laptops were checked out at one time.  “Usage of the laptops will only increase as the word gets out that they are available” said Pope.

The statistics for the circulation of cline library materials for CCC students went from 9 to 130 from September of 2009 to September of 2010, a whopping increase of 1,355 percent! Faculty usage went from 22 to 62, and increase of 181.82 percent.  Searches on the EBSCO Database (CCC’S Main Data Base Vendor went from 708 in July of 2010 to 14,338 in September with that number expected to go much higher as the semester progresses!

This increase in numbers of people using CCC’s available resources is important because it shows the increase in awareness of these helpful tools. The databases and vendors CCC has for articles and information, including EBSCO, can be used to help students in the fields of Nursing, Psychology, Education, Business, and other academic searches. If CCC databases can’t find what you are looking for, the college also can connect with NAU’s databases for a broader search.

One student said on an assessment survey, “I had no idea so many resources were available to me without being an NAU student!” While another student said, “Most important for classroom success: the readiness of informed staff as well as easily and abundantly accessible sources. (By the way, I’m impressed; it seems the college has both of those facets covered.)”
