Three CCC Students Recognized As Arizona's Outstanding Community College Scholars

Each year the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor organization takes time to celebrate student achievements from community, junior, and technical colleges. This year there were sixty-three students who were nominated by Arizona’s Community Colleges to participate in the 2010 All-USA Academic Team for Community Colleges competition. Of those sixty-three students, three students from Coconino Community College were awarded this academic achievement on Thursday, February 18, 2010; Sariah Rose Faith, Kristen Yuki Ito, and Cynthia L. Simpson.

Sariah Rose Faith, whose hometown is Flagstaff, attends classes at the Lone Tree Campus as a Business Administration major with a GPA of 3.67. Faith has made the Vice President’s List, and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Faith plans on transferring to Northern Arizona University.

Kristen Yuki Ito, originally from Vista, California, and attends the Fourth Street Campus as a Nursing and Psychology major with a GPA of 3.65. Ito has made the President’s List and the Dean’s List. Simpson was awarded the English Department’s Student of the Year Award for the 2006-2007 academic years. She volunteers at various places in her area. “I’ve always found the adage ‘Life is what happens when you are busy making plans’ to be so true. Things happen, but you have to go with it; I hope I can teach my son that message,” says Simpson.
