The CCC Mentoring Program was put in place to provide meaningful personal support and guidance to Coconino Commuity College Faculty. The mentoring program assigns experienced CCC teachers from the same discipline area to provide guidance and support to new or inexperienced faculty for one semester.
The mentoring relationship is based on the needs of the mentee and designed accordingly. The mentoring relationship is confidential, and should remain between mentor and mentee in most if not all circumstances. In general, mentors of new faculty will provide basic orientation and logistics information to supplement the general New Faculty Orientation meeting, reminders regarding important deadlines and procedures, confidential classroom visitation and regular check-ins throughout the semester. Mentors are paid for their time, and mentees should never feel as if they cannot call upon their mentor with questions.
Other types of more specific mentoring for CCC teachers have been explored in the past such as technology mentors or "partners." CCC hopes to expand the mentoring program to other types of specific mentoring that respond to more specific areas of development for individual teachers. If you have a specific need you would like guidance in you can request a specific type of mentoring from the faculty development coordinators, Risa Garelick or Robin Rickli, who administrate the mentoring program in Room 430. If you have a deisre to serve as a mentor or feel you have skills in a particular area that you would like to mentor, you can also contact the Faculty Development Office with your request. Mentors go through a brief orientation process and are compensated for their work.
If you have any questions about the mentoring program, you can contact Risa Garelisk or Robin Rickli through their CCC email or by calling the Office of the Faculty Development Coordinator a@ 226-4380. Risa and Robin are also available as back-up mentors if your own mentor should be unavailable or lack particular knowledge.
