I.      Introductions/Warm up

II.     Overview of Tech Prep Materials Handed Out

A.    Dual Enrollment Handbook, 2007-08

B.    Coconino County Tech Prep Site Handbook FY2008

C.    Labels with important LT Tech Prep dates

D.    Certificate of Participation

III.   Presentation by Preston Webster, Institute for Future Workforce Development at NAU. Summer Institute.

IV.   Site Team Contracts and Responsibility

A.    Transcripts: Tech Prep not able to do individually. School should handle.

B.    Notice of Intent 101: School should talk to Tech Prep before setting up curriculum. Notice can be downloaded for $10.

C.    College program articulated with another community college: Tell Tech Prep because any articulated program will be counted for funding—not just ones articulated with CCC.

D.    Manufacturing program: Tech Prep encourages. Is possible that CCC would have program before school does, and it is all right if school starts theirs first.

E.    Welding for Page: Ask Rob Windmiller, Tuba City, who has welding.

V.    Site Team Plans/Budgets

A.    Ann can do amendment for Tech Prep program at school.

B.    Difference this year: Do not budget for Õ08 Summer Conference. Take money out of the Õ09 fiscal year money, about $3000.

C.    Can budget for substitute teacher. Is done as offset—entered as expense and then entered as reimbursement. Ann reminded that Tech Prep operates on a reimbursement basis, reimbursing school the expense of an event that has already taken place. Submit within 30 days.

D.    Ann can reallocate money from one school to another.

VI.   DE/Articulation

A.    SAIS Numbers: Ann says she will ask the district to get a download of SAIS numbers. Greyhills Academy is not a public school; and, therefore, does not have SAIS numbers.

B.    Domicile Affidavit: Foster students are losing credits. Ann says bring up the issue of foster students to the State Office of Education because that is an easier way to get information on parents.

C.    Portable scanners: Ann is looking into taking portable scanners to the schools to facilitate gathering domicile affidavit ID information.

D.    Ann stated that the schools set the number of classes each dual enrolls for college credit, not CCC.

E.    Ann stated that if a student takes more DE classes than allowed, he can get high school, but not CCC credit. School needs to decide which courses for college credit are more valuable to the student. Ann recommends that the student choose the academic courses.

F.    If a senior has met the requirements for graduation, he can take more than the 3 courses for CCC credit.

G.   Recapturing Credits/Transfer Articulation:

1.     Regarding students who get regular high school credit and decide to forego CCC credit, Ann says that Tech Prep has gotten the OK to evaluate these transcripts.

2.     Each change is transcripted from CCC to CCC. Ann hopes that soon the credit will be transferable to other colleges.

3.     Transfer articulation credit is awarded on a case-by-case basis to a student who does not fill out the DE paperwork. It was suggested that we have the student initiate the process.

4.     The present dual enrollment qualification states that a student must attend CCC within 2 years of high school graduation. After taking 6 hours at CCC, the student can have Tech Prep non-dual enrollment credit placed on his transcript.

H.    Recommendation was made that all schools use ÒDEÓ for Dual Enrollment in their course catalogs, and that Ann send memo to all schools to list DE after each dual enrollment course.

I.      Consortia IGA: When CAVIAT was brought in, Ann had to redo/resign the IGAs. She will have a totally revised one to each member by the end of fall. She will be meeting with the school boards.

J.     Teacher competencies: Ann reminded the team to be sure to check each teacherÕs competencies and to be sure they match the curriculum. Each course has a form mailed to the teacher for this.

K.    Dual enrollment is expanding in every area, except Tuba City. Dual enrollment is still not being done with Dine, despite continued encouragement.

L.     Question: If teacher has switched from industry to education, is a provisional ADE OK? Ann says more important is the industry certification. The teacher should have the certificate or letter from his previous company detailing his experience and years performing it. Ann says some teachers become certified through ADE, but are not able to be certified through CCC. Certification is done on a case-by-case basis. She encourages each teacher to apply for certification, noting that 98% of applicants are certified by CCC.

M.   Question: Should Tech Prep ÒAutos IIIÓ be listed in the student catalog as ÒNightÓ or Ò7Ó? Ò7th PeriodÓ or ÒNightÓ is fine since Ann and Janet know the exact time.

N.    Assessment of Classes 07-08:

1.     Ann says we need to have meetings for articulation and assessment. Ann is trying to get Saturday meetings.

2.     Ann does not have last yearÕs assessment reports. It is not clear from some of the reports who passed or not.

3.     To assess, Ann says pick 3 competencies, describe the method of assessment, and list the results.

4.     Do not worry that your course content and/or methods of assessment are not the same as other teachersÕ who teach the same course.

O.   Advise Ann of all changes in name of courses, teachers, etc. Check courses on our website, and let Ann know if mistakes.

VII. PIER—Promotion, Information, Education, Recruitment

A.    Send Lenore more Page posters.

B.    Discussion whether high schools should show costs. Ann questions whether high schools should. A participant felt that listing costs shows classroom values.

C.    Continue job fairs. Last yearÕs drew over 300 students.

D.    E-mail Dual Enrollment poster as PDF to all teachers.

E.    Waive first semester tuition after graduation when enrolling in CCC. Ann will talk to Bob Erb.

F.    Business cards for teachers with ÒTech PrepÓ noted. Janet sent around sheet for update of information from teachers for business cards.

G.   At graduation give student instruction sheet telling student how to obtain transcript.

H.    Transition planner for students from junior high through college.

I.      Calculators of competition/test quality. Keep calculator year to year.

J.     Safely glasses with ÒTech PrepÓ on them.

K.    Lanyards: Can for teachers. Will look into for students.

L.     Gold charm for tassel for completion of 4 Tech Prep classes.

M.   Digital cameras to take pictures for promotion.

N.    College banners with ÒCoconino Community College.Ó

O.   Post Its with Tech Prep. (Not able to do frig magnets.)

P.    Continue pens.

VIII.         Professional Development

A.    Is OK to request leave from school. We will reimburse the school.

B.    Some schools have dropped DE and are doing Career Pathways. The National Career Pathways Conference is in Louisville, KY, in October 2007.

C.    New teachers really benefit from the NAU 5-day training conference, June 8-12, 2008. Registration is $650. Add room and board, mileage, per diem. We pay stipend. We will try to partner with CAVIAT.

D.    Association of Career and Tech Ed Conference, Las Vegas, NV, December 13-15, 2007.

E.    Region 5 of ACTE conference, April, 2008.

F.    USFR, November 29-30, 2007, fall forum on managing federal education grants.

IX.   SPENT

A.    Regarding equal access to all students, Ann recommends having Tim Warnet from Prescott talk to students.

B.    Regarding disability resources, coordinate our resources with high schools more completely to help transition students from high school to college. Be sure students are made aware of our disability accommodations at CCC. Also, adaptive tech is different in high schools than in colleges. Be sure students are made aware that adaptive tech at CCC is at the post-secondary level. For example, in high school students are allowed to answer fewer questions. This may not be the case at CCC.

X.    Partnerships/Work-Based Learning:

A.    Promote CCC network. DE is able to use the CCC on-line Job Board with the community and companies under 50 employees. The Job Board posts list of employers and student resumes. Is expanding to outlying areas—Page, Fredonia, Tuba City.

B.    Job Fair, Lone Tree campus, May 7, 2008. Tech Prep supports high schoolsÕ career fairs. Each school can use site team money. Ask for our help. Fredonia and Tuba City will hold job fairs.

C.    We support AZCIS at local level. Ann would do presentation to faculty and staff and print promotional materials. Initial user name and password unnecessary.

D.    Ann recommends that the consortia combine advisory councils.

E.    Coordinate CAVIAT and dual enrollment. There is summer school subsistence. Develop a relationship with Upward Bound. Look into whether Navajo Nation would fund room and board. There is some interest in funding 30 students at a cost of $1,200 per student. Plans will be solidified by end of this year. Student does not have to qualify for the program if over 18 years old.

F.    J-TED

G.   Ann is working on more central programs, and wants suggestions for more. We have a central program for CNA. We are doing NAHEC summer Future Health Careers program.

H.    Youth Council—held at Coconino County Career Center.

I.      All Leadership Team meetings will be held at the Lone Tree Campus. We will send Lone Tree parking passes. There is teleconferencing for all people for these meetings. Ann will look into fading in and out of teleconference.

XI.   Evaluation: Suggestions for retreat next year include NAU Convention Center; houseboat on Lake Powell; Grand Canyon, North Rim (center is managed by same people as Mormon Lake Lodge); and Mormon Lake Lodge again.

XII. Team Building Activity: Rowing race.

XIII.         Wrap up
