Award-winning Violinist to Perform the Masters
in Free CCC Concert
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Flagstaff will be treated to the works of such musical masters as Bach, Beethoven, Paganini, Tchaikovsky and others in a free concert at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12 in the Coconino Community College Lone Tree Commons.
Award-winning Polish violinist Krzysztof Rucinski, assisted by CCC music faculty member Chase Coleman, is scheduled to perform during his tour through Arizona and Nevada. The 17-year-old is visiting the United States for the first time. He started playing the violin at age 7 and chose the instrument himself as he had always loved its glorious sound.
“Violin is my life and I love playing new and challenging pieces,” he said. “I dream of playing all of them, so I'll be busy for the next hundred years or more!"
Rucinski has competed in many competitions winning high honor. Most recently he received the Special Award in the first H. W. Ernst and K. Szymanowski International Violin Competition in Wroclaw. He says he hopes to continue his studies in the United States next fall at the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.
Former Flagstaff Symphony conductor Harold Weller has been instrumental in bringing Rucinski to the United States and encouraging him to apply at the Eastman School of Music.
“Krzysztof is not only a very gifted violinist, but possesses outstanding qualities of maturity and modesty -- very rare in a person his age,” said Weller, conductor laureate of the Las Vegas Philharmonic and Flagstaff Symphony. “I have every confidence that this young man will achieve great things in his lifetime!"
Rucinski's U.S. performances will help launch the "Foundation to Assist Young Musicians," founded by Weller. The nonprofit organization is accepting tax deductible contributions to encourage and support gifted young musicians in early training, advanced study and professional career development. To send contributions or learn more about FAYM, write to: FAYM, 9513 Coral Way, Las Vegas, NV 89117.
Suggested $10 contributions to help pay for Rucinski’s travel costs will be accepted at the CCC concert.
