“Every year, there are new dynamic changes that keeps this production at the top of the must see holiday shows! The authentic ethnic dancing, new casting, choreography, additional costumes, musical surprises and fantastic sets will send you home with the holiday spirit!” said Canyon Movement Company Director Gina Darlington.

New this year is the addition of some hip hop, tap, enhanced contemporary costumes, additional choreographers and a cast of more than 75 dancers. This annual Flagstaff tradition uses music by Peter Tchaikovsky with new choreographic interpretations lending a fresh look to this classical favorite. Beautiful backdrops of the San Francisco Peaks, along with some musical surprises, bring this holiday favorite home to Flagstaff

In December 2004, the Arizona Daily Sun said, “In all, The Nutcracker Suite in Modern Bare Feet showed Flagstaff a creative, entertaining interpretation of the classic ballet. The audience was treated to a visual feast of delicious sets, elaborate costuming and ethnic variety…combined to present a solid, enchanting holiday performance.”

Findley Brings the Outdoors Indoors at CCC Fine Art Photography Exhibit

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Through 45 states and four countries, photographer Joe Findley has hunted salmon-catching grizzlies, cliff-clinging mountain goats, dew-splashed aspen leaves and color-popping wildflowers. This month he brings these images to Flagstaff in his fine art photography exhibit on the Coconino Community College Lone Tree Campus. An artist’s reception is scheduled for 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12 in CCC’s Lone Tree Campus Commons.

Findley says he has always had a love affair with the outdoors and used his first paycheck from the U.S. Air Force to purchase his first Nikon SLR. When he wasn’t in training, he was hiking along the beaches of Biloxi, Miss. with his new camera. Since that time in the early ‘80s, Findley has put his patience and endurance to the test to capture the world’s natural beauty in stunning images and rich colors.

“I really like pristine scenery,” he said. “You feel so at ease and at peace when you view pictures of the Grand Canyon and the wild places of our national parks and forests.”

Findley says wildlife photography is tricky. “You have to know a little about the wildlife habitat and the mannerisms of the animals – you have to have an idea of what the subject is going to do next to take the best shot.”

He calls, Aspen Dew, his signature shot. “It’s crisp and clear and looks good really small and really big. That’s unusual for a photograph.”

Findley captured Aspen Dew by accident. “I was climbing up a hill to take another picture and I fell. On the ground in front of my face were these perfectly composed leaves. I stood up and took the picture – that’s typically how a photographer gets his best shot, when it just appears in front of him.”

Recently, Findley has taken an interest in ancient architecture and ruins, as well. “It’s really uplifting and gratifying when you know you’ve captured something special and with digital photography you don’t have to wait – you can see it right away.”

When he’s not shooting, Findley is a software engineer. He recently moved from the Breckenridge/Keystone, Colo. area to Flagstaff and is working at Northern Arizona University.

The Fine Art Photography by Joe Findley exhibit will run from Tuesday, Dec. 11 through Wednesday, Feb. 20. Findley’s images start at around $50. Also for sale will be 2008 calendars with Findley’s images from Colorado, Alaska Utah and Wyoming. For a preview of his work, log on to www.findleyphotography.com.
