Work Experience:
Seven occupations later and I think this might be the last one. I have worked as a machinist, busboy, grocery clerk, store manager, business owner, landlord and now as an educator. At the age of 15 I worked for my father manufacturing semi-truck air brakes. A hot, dirty, and being the son of one of the owners, a thankless job. Then for a short time I worked in a resort restaurant and found another reason why I wanted to complete my education. My senior year in high school, after becoming an Arizona State wrestling champion at 145 lbs. and winning the team championship I began to work for A. J. Bayless Markets. I started at the bottom and eventually became the youngest manager in the company. Shortly after the company was sold in 1984 our supervisors informed us that the new owners wanted more productivity out of the employees and that we were to use the old yell and intimidate routine. I told my supervisor that I tried it 14 years ago and it didn’t work then and I wouldn’t do it now. Two weeks later they found someone that would and I was demoted. The writing was on the wall (old cliché) and I bought my own business a year later. After 6 years of working 4:00 A.M. to 8:30 P.M. and wisely investing every penny I made, I retired. Oh, 1.5 years after I left A.J. Bayless they went bankrupt. J All total I have over 20 years experience in business. With success, we often have the opportunity to change and mine is no different. In 1991 I retired from the 24/7 demand of running my own business. It only took three months to determine that I needed more to do and had the perfect opportunity to choose any profession I wanted. So back to school I went and by 1995 I had completed my MBA in management.

Educational Background:
My first educational career began at a community college. I then transferred to Northern Arizona University to complete my studies. I earned a BSBA in finance graduating in 1994 with honors. In 1995 I finished my MBA at Northern Arizona University. By 2006 I will have completed my Doctorate of Management in Organizational Leadership from the University of Phoenix. I will be forever grateful for the knowledge my professors shared and the encouragement they gave.

Teaching Experience:
My first year teaching was at Northland Pioneer College (NPC) in 1996 where I taught in the Arizona State prison system. What a place to be able to have a positive impact on a person's future. In fact, as a captive audience, I could demand extraordinary attendance and performance.  By the end of my first year, I secured a full-time position with NPC.

Overall, I had three great years with NPC as an instructor.  My teaching assignments included courses in Business/Computer Science taught at St. Johns, Springerville, Winslow, and Keams Canyon. I served for two years as the department chair for the Computer Information Systems Department. In 1999, a position opened at Coconino Community College in Flagstaff Arizona and to my delight I was chosen for the position.

My educational career at Coconino Community College (CCC) started in 1999 as an instructor for Accounting, Business, and Economics.  My current position is Accounting/Business/Economics Instructor and Department Chair for Business.  For over three years I have been able to smile because I get to go to work. CCC is a special place where I get to share my experiences to enrich learners’ lives. I believe it is my love of teaching that earned me the distinction of Faculty of the Year in 2001. What makes this special is that I was nominated by my students and selected by my peers among so many great people at the institution. At the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Conference (NISOD) I was recognized for my teaching philosophy in their annual video presented at the conference.  This was a great honor, but it pales when I hear a story from a past student on how well he/she is doing either in business or at the university.
