Getting Started

Want to take a web class? Start with these success tips.

  • Be self-motivated and self-disciplined. The online environment requires commitment and responsibility to keep up with the course requirements.
  • Familiarize yourself with the course design, syllabus, schedule, and requirements.
  • Log into the course Web site on a regular basis. Regular attention to the Web site allows you to be aware of course updates, conference postings, assignment updates, and messages requiring immediate attention.
  • Participate! Contribute your ideas, thoughts and comments and read your classmate’s input.
  • Use good communication skills. Remember that the Internet is a public place.
  • Establish a study schedule and remember to take breaks from the mouse, keyboard and glare of the computer monitor.
  • Stay in touch with your instructor, especially when you have questions. Do not hesitate to leave your instructor and email or telephone message.
  • If the days and times of the online class are NA, then there is no required time to be online.
  • If there is a day and time listed for the online class, then it is required to be online during that day and time.
