What can I find at the CCC library?

Our library collection provides a "getting started" approach to meet your information needs. We specialize in help with research assignments and projects. The library is combined with the learning center and offers study tables, study rooms and computer access. We have a limited collection of books, periodicals, newspapers, and magazines; including dictionaries, encyclopedias and subject references. We have online databases and links to recommended internet Web sites. Check at your individual campus for more information.

What kind of help can I get at the CCC library?

Can I check out books from the CCC library?

Yes, our books are available for check out. (Check at your local CCC campus as some locations have differing checkout guidelines.) Use the library's catalog to see what books and media we offer. Some math videos can be checked out overnight.  Reserve materials are requested at the reception desk and only available for use in the Learning Centers.  A copier is convenient to the area.

What are "reserve materials" and how do I use them?

Reserves are additional or required materials that some instructors leave in the library for their students to use in the Library & Learning Center. These might be study guides, articles, books, videos or CDs. You can find reserve materials at the reception desk in the Learning Centers: be sure and have the exact name of the material your instructor put on reserve and your student ID.

Why is the CCC library so limited?

Coconino Community College formed partnerships with several libraries throughout the county. This allows students to get information from various public and special libraries within the county. This approach decreases the cost to county taxpayers by not duplicating library resources and services.

What are databases and how are they different than Internet Web sites?

This is a good question. Databases are collections of quality information that cannot be found on the Internet. Please refer to our online workshop "Databases vs the Internet." This workshop will give you a clear picture of what you will find in databases and why it is so important to research in databases.

Where are magazine and journal articles located online?

Online magazine and journal articles can be found in our "One-Stop for Research" section. Journals provide quality content based on peer-reviewed evaluation of the information. Peer-reviewed means that the article has been read, reviewed and recommended by scholars in the same field of study. A peer-reviewed article is the most credible type of research support available. For further information about the credibility of resources see our handout on Evaluating Resources.

What kinds of databases does CCC have?

We currently purchase databases that contain general information, information related to subjects taught at the community college level and topics of interest to students. We collect databases with attractive features such as photographs, digital images, newspapers, slide shows, audio and video clips. Types of information include magazine and journal articles, newspapers, media clips, e-books and historical images. For a full list, go to "All Databases: A - Z Listing."
