Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the intentional or unintentional theft of someone else’s thoughts, words or ideas. The educational community considers plagiarism a violation of academic integrity as outlined by Coconino Community College’s procedures on Academic Integrity, Honesty, Plagiarism and Cheating (#303.11)

One of the best ways to avoid plagiarism is to use care during the research process to record which information whether in the form of ideas, thoughts or quotations is from which source or sources. Many electronic sources provide explanations of plagiarism and practical advice to avoid it. Information Resources and Library Services, in conjunction with the Learning Enhancement Center, takes the issue of plagiarism seriously.  Part of our mission is to support students through research education, instruction and access to supplemental resources. Our online workshops and exercises on Study Skills, Documentation, Plagiarism, the Research Process and Search Strategies offer guidance to students who want to avoid plagiarism.  Coconino Community College’s policy on academic integrity and plagiarism outlines consequences to students who plagiarize.
