Advance Registration is required to take the GED. To register for the GED you must complete the following:
Before you register:
- If you are applying for a GED exam fee scholarship, submit all scholarship paperwork.
- Consider attending a GED preparation course or study for the GED on your own. Information about GED preparation can be found on the Resources page of this website.
- Make sure you have all required documentation. See the Requirements page for a detailed list of the documentation you may need.
Register for the GED Exam:
- Registration may take 20-30 minutes and is conducted at the 4th St. campus. You must register in person.
- Payment of all exam fees must be made when you register. Payment for the exam may be made at the 4th St. cashiering office. Pay in Cash, Money Order, or Cashier's Check - personal checks are not accepted.
- You must show a valid photo ID and a second form of ID when you register - see the Requirements page.
- If you were awarded an exam fee scholarship, bring your award letter when you register.
- The first time registration fee is $15, and the cost for all 5 exams is $60 - a total of $75.00.
- The re-take fee for each individual test that you do not pass is $12.
- Candidates who do not show up for a test session will forfeit their exam fee and will be required to pay an additional exam fee to register for another test(s).
- Select an exam date. Exam seating is limited and exam dates are subject to availability.
- Complete a Demographics form - obtained at 4th St. during registration.
- Complete a Registration card - obtained at 4th St. during registration.
List of things you need to register for the GED Exam:
Valid photo ID with your picture, name, address, birth date, and signature.

Cashiering receipt for the exam fees
Demographics form - get this when you register
Registration card - get this when you register
If you have not turned 18-years-old
Notarized parent consent (click on link for form)
Official withdrawal letter from the last school you attended
A recommendation of GED readiness from an Adult Education institution and/or official predictor of test scores.
If you were home-schooled
You will need an official Notice of Withdrawal from the District Superintendent's Office.
