1. Who can take the GED?

You may take the GED if you are at least 16 years old, not currently enrolled in high school, or if you have not graduated from high school.

2.  How much does the GED cost?

The exam fee to take all 5 tests is $60. The retake fee for each individual test is $12. There is a one-time fee of $15 charged the first time the test is taken, so the total cost is $75.

3. What is on the GED?

The exam is made up of six tests in five different areas: Language Arts Writing - Part I and II, Language Arts Reading, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science. Language Arts Writing and Mathematics are given together. All other tests are given during open testing sessions.

4. How long do I have to finish the whole exam?

There is no time limit to complete the GED. However, if you don't pass the first time, you can only retake it 2 more times during one calendar year.

5. Are there breaks during the exam?

There are short breaks between tests. Once a test begins, you may not leave the testing room unless you finish the test early. Food and drinks are NOT provided. Make sure you bring enough to eat and drink during scheduled breaks.

6. What score do I need to pass?

You need a minimum score of 410 on each test AND a minimum total score 2250.

7. How long will it take for me to get my results?

After you finish all the tests in the GED you should obtain your results in writing, through the mail within two weeks. If you do not receive your results after two weeks, contact CCC's Chief Examiner at 226-4206. You can also access your scores the week after you finish your GED by going to http://ged123.org and entering in your access code. See our etranscript page for more information.

8. When and where are tests given?

Tests are typically given two times per month, usually beginning on Tuesday and ending on Wednesday. Testing and registration are conducted at Coconino Community College's 4th St. campus (3000 N. Fourth St. - Flagstaff, AZ). Call 527-7600 for info.

9. How do I get additional copies of my results?

Use your access code on the new etranscript page to get copies of your scores. If you need additional information or documentation, contact the state at www.ade.az.gov/adult-ed/request_records.asp, by email at phxged@ade.az.gov, or by calling (602) 258-2410.

10. What if I need an accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act?

Plan ahead, the application process will take time. To apply for accommodations you must complete an accommodations request form (forms are available through the GED Chief Examiner). Your accommodation request will be sent to the Arizona Dept. of Education - GED Testing Office and/or GED Testing Services. The State Dept. of Education - GED Testing Office will make a determination on most accommodations, however, if it is an accommodation that they are not authorized to make a determination on, the request will be forwarded to the GED Testing Services in Washington, DC for determination. Requests processed through the State Dept. of Education take approximately 30 days. Requests that require GED Testing Services determination can take up four months.
