Mission: Learning Enhancement Services' mission is to provide students with opportunities to improve their chances of educational and occupational success.

Learning Assistance -How it works: The philosophy of Learning Assistance is to help you learn how to learn. In order to do that we'll help you:

  • troubleshoot problems.
  • explain concepts that have been covered in the class.
  • direct you to other resources that provide more detail explanations.
  • guide you through problems or examples.
  • help you with similar problems on take home exams and homework..
  • help solve course content and related study skill problems.
  • direct you to services that do what we don’t.
  • will check a few of your problems to make sure you are on the right track.
  • direct you to workshops that can help you with your educational success.

In order to help you grow as a self-directed learner. Our learning assistants don't:

  • provide instruction if you have missed a class or want to study ahead.
  • do your homework assignments or take home exam questions.
  • check all of your homework problems or test questions for accuracy.
  • prepare you for your exam/paper (if you are not ready) in a short period of time.
  • to resolve problems with your instructor or textbook.

History: The Learning Enhancement Center at Coconino Community College was developed in 1992 by a small group of Instructors who believed in providing a positive learning environment dedicated to student success. In the beginning, learning assistance was given in an empty classroom at our Fourth Street location and by Spring of 1993 we had a large room with a dozen tables and 5 part-time learning assistance staff members. A Learning Enhancement Center at the Page campus was incorporated into the building plans. The Flagstaff Learning Enhancement Center grew consistantly and by Spring of 2002 was housed both in Building One in the new Lone Tree campus and directly behind registration at the Fourth Street campus. The LEC continues to serve hundreds of students each semester at both locations with a staff of nearly 20 learning assistants. We're proud of our accomplishment, but the LEC prefers to celebrate the students who "learned how to learn" through our services.
