Front Page Helper #2

Convert MS Word Document

Converting a Microsoft word document seems like and easy task, but not everything is as easy as it seems.

First, using the Save As HTML in MS Word, can produce a document that looks something like your Word document. Unfortunately, it can add extra spaces between lines and paragraphs and other unexpected formatting problems. Also, if you have images in your document , then those images will not be correctly formatted, linked and saved.

Fortunately, if you have FrontPage, then you can convert your document quite easily and keep your images at the same time.

Just follow these steps:

1.      Open your MS Word document.
2.      Select all of the text and images that you want to include on your HTML page.
3.      Choose Edit-Copy.
4.      Open FrontPage.
5.      Choose Edit-Paste.
6.      Save FrontPage document.
7.      If you have images you should then get a prompt asking you to save a file for each image. These files should all be in GIF and JPEG format. If you have any photographs check at this dialog box to make sure that FrontPage saves them as JPEG’s.

Tip   You can also convert other text documents like RTF or WordPerfect files, if you open and save them in MS Word first, then follow the directions above.
