Institutional effectiveness at Coconino Community College (CCC) has evolved over the years from an initial plan for assessment of student academic achievement to an institution-wide commitment to evaluating overall institutional effectiveness at the mission, program, classroom, and service levels.
In August 2001, a draft list of core indicators of institutional effectiveness was presented to the District Governing Board at a daylong retreat. The Board and college personnel prioritized and articulated CCC's first set of core indicators. Next, the institution drafted a schedule for the collection and analysis of these data and tied them to strategic planning objectives.
The categories of core indicators identified by the College are: student learning, student development, community development, quality workplace and stewardship. These five areas are distilled from CCC’s purpose statements. This linkage of core indicators to purposes has bonded institutional assessment activities to strategic planning in a meaningful way. The College’s institutional effectiveness plan shows how the category of community development is delineated.
The plan has recently been expanded to include a number of revised and newly created documents designed for constant tracking and monitoring of the most basic to the most crucial performance indicators. These are live documents that will be consistently updated and available to everyone.
