Coconino
Community College District’s Grants Management Handbook is modeled
extensively on the work of Maricopa Community College District’s
handbook of the same name. We are very grateful to Carol Hale, Director
of Grants and Corporate Development of the Maricopa County Community
College District, for giving us permission to use and adapt the work
they have completed there. Clearly, theirs was a remarkably thorough
project. Permission to use their work has catapulted our own efforts
to create guidelines for grant writers and has further inspired the
creation and adoption of policy and procedures (P&P 206) associated
with grants acquisition that were heretofore absent at Coconino Community
College. We did not have to “reinvent the wheel” but were
instead able to assemble a “Mercedes” of a handbook from
their “kit.” We are most indebted to them.
Many
individuals have assisted in the year-long process to research, adapt
and create a guidebook for prospective grant writers and project managers.
In particular, I would like to thank Linda Clark, Emily McRobbie, Ann
Black and Jami Bradley for attending weekly meeting during which the
five of us reviewed and edited text, and in many instances, created
processes for grants acquisition which were then shared with the President’s
Advisory Council for modification and/or endorsement. Bill Yazel, Rose
Calvin and Cindy Cook offered technical advice. Many thanks go to Carol
Wilson for assisting with the computer downloads and uploads associated
with a project of this magnitude and for helping with the editing.
I would also like to thank Dean Pickett of Mangum, Wall, Stoops and
Warden, P.L.L.C., for his guidance with regard to policy language,
and the Coconino County Community College District Governing Board
for their stewardship with regard to policy governance.
