Q:        Does CCC participate in the student loan program?

Q:        How do I apply for Financial Aid?

A:        Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms and Pre-Application Worksheets are available at the Office of Student Financial Assistance (OFSA) front counter.  Be sure to read all directions prior to filling out the FAFSA.  You can also complete the FAFSA application on- line.

Q:        Can I have my parent(s) or spouse call to get information on my financial aid file?

A:        We cannot identify a student over the phone, which means we will not give out any specific information on your file. We can release general information (not specific to your file) to anyone. If you are unable to contact our office during normal working hours you may access your information on Web4 Student Self Service.

Q:        Can my parent(s) or spouse be given information on my file in person?

A:        As a student, you may sign a Student Authorizaton To Release Information document authorizing CCC to release your specific information to the person you have designated. Without this signed document information will not be released.

Q:        What is the maximum amount I can make and still receive financial aid?

A:        That is dependent on how the Department of Education classifies
            you.
If you are independent your eligibility is determined from your
income and/or your spouse's income from the previous tax year. If
you are dependent your eligibility is determined from your income
and your parents income from the previous tax year.

Q
:        Do I need to be admitted to Coconino Community College
for my FAFSA information to show up?

A:        Yes, if you are not admitted to Coconino Community College your FAFSA information will never be received; even though you have requested your FAFSA information to be sent to CCC.  Be sure you have completed all the requirements for admission as a financial aid student.

Q:        How many hours do you have to take to receive financial
            aid?

A:        You can take as few as 1 credit hour and still receive financial aid funding if you have been determined to be eligible by the Department of Education and CCC. If you are approved for a Federal Family Education Loan you must maintain 6 credit hours.

Q:        How long after I apply will I receive a check?

A:         From the time that you mail in your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) it will take approx. 4-6 weeks before information is received.  If you processed your FAFSA electronically with the OSFA or through FAFSA on the Web, it usually takes 1-2 weeks for CCC to receive information from the Federal Processor.  At that point the OSFA has a series of checks each student must go through, they are as follows:

1)        You must be degree/certificate seeking (DT or DC)

2)        You must have declared a Major

 3)        You must list the month & year in which you graduated from high school; home school, or received your GED Certificate.  If you did not list this information on your Admissions application you will need to provide documentation of graduation or receiving your GED.

4)         If you attended a school past high school your Official Academic Transcripts must be on file with the Office of Admissions & Records, and evaluated.

Q:        Do I have to fill out the FAFSA again next semester?

A:       You only have to complete it once for the Academic Year.  If you
complete more than one application it can cause a problem with
            the Federal Processor.
You can start the process in January of
each year for the upcoming Fall semester.  It's best to have it
completed by May or earlier to ensure funds will be available to
you prior to the start of school.

Q

XXX number of years.  Why am I considered dependent?
Why do they need to fill out the application with their tax
