Notification Letters
After a student is authorized to receive accomodations, the student will submit the notification letter to his/her instructor in a confidential setting. The chart below briefly outlines protocol for instructors to follow.
- Letter legally informs instructor that student qualifies for DR services.
- Identifies accommodations student qualifies for under the ADA.
- Instructor meets with student privately to discuss needed accommodations. Instructor and student sign the letter. keeps a copy, and sends original letter back to the DR Coordinator.
- Does not mean the student will use all reported accommodations. Instructor and student can meet and discuss which accommodations will occur. The student will decide which accommodations to use depending on subject, instructor, class content, etc.
- Instructor follows through on all authorized accommodations.
- Does not mean that faculty and/or student can add accommodations. If an Instructor wants to add an accommodation, then he/she must be prepared to provide that accommodation to ALL students.
- Announce note-taking accommodation (if applicable) during the first class meeting after receiving notification letter. DO NOT mention student's name.
