From basic accounting and business skills, to marketing and promotions, how to find grants, and who to go to for advice, this course arms you with essential knowledge and skills that working artists need to have.
Dr. Constance DeVereaux is Principal Manager of DeVereaux Consulting, specializing in arts management, artists' services, non-profit management, community cultural development, and higher education. She is a Fulbright Senior Specialist in Arts Management and Policy and has consulted internationally on arts management and cultural development projects. She is the former director of arts management at Shenandoah University and is the founder of the arts management program at Claremont Graduate University. She has written successful grant applications to the National Endowment for the Arts, Benton Foundation, Ford Foundation, Council of Graduate Schools, Puffin Foundation, Nevada Arts Council, Nevada Commission on Tourism, Nevada Humanities Commission, and others. She is an award-winning playwright and has received grants and awards for her creative work.

Ask any arts manager. They'll tell you that managing an arts organization isn't rocket science. . .it's much harder. That's because art isn't like other products and working with artists and the public requires knowledge that goes beyond basic business skills. It requires knowledge of such diverse topics as marketing and audience development, economics and finances, public policy, fundraising, board development, arts education, strategic planning, as well as the diplomatic skills for developing relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
This course is designed to provide experienced and new arts managers with the background and basic skills for success in managing everything from a theatre company, musical group, dance troupe, to a gallery or literary society.
