FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Coconino Community College is offering a thought-provoking art exhibit on the Lone Tree Campus through Nov. 14, Landscape at Risk: Contemporary Views of the West.
Through photographs, charcoal drawings and pastel paintings, the exhibit seeks to display seemingly contradictory roles of the West. Some areas of the region are viewed as wilderness, set aside for their own intrinsic value or for those individuals hardy enough to venture into them; and, in contrast, there also are vast tracts of land and natural resources slated for development.
“Like most art exhibits, this one is designed to capture interest and make people think,” said CCC Visual & Performing Arts Presenter Sydney Francis. “Landscape at Risk asks what do visitors to the West find and how is this region impacted by tourists and a broad range of uses.”
The exhibit is free and open to the public, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. An artists’ reception is scheduled for 5 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10 in the CCC Lone Tree Campus Commons.
