Coleman Offers an Evening of Classical Music

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Piano virtuoso and Coconino Community College music instructor Chase Coleman will be offering a free piano recital at 7 p.m., Friday, March 28 in the Lone Tree Commons.

The concert will feature musical pieces from Ginastera and Debussey, and a special visual presentation using student artwork to complement Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.

“This is one of the most exciting projects I've ever worked on because it is some of the greatest piano music ever composed,” said Coleman. “The students’ art will be wonderful and I hope many people come to participate in the new trend of integrated arts presentation.”

Coleman teaches music history and the history of jazz at CCC. He also teaches piano lessons, composes music and serves as the director of CCC’s Jazz Ensemble.

“Playing the piano is my primary mode of musical expression and how I most like to share music with others. There is no substitute for the communication that takes place between a performer and his audience.”

In addition, Coleman says performing helps him stay in sync with his students.

Although the recital is free, donations will be appreciated and will go toward the purchase of an acoustical shell to improve the sound quality of future concerts at the campus.
