FLAGSTAFF, AZ - A team from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) visited Coconino Community College (CCC) November 14, through 16th as one of the last steps in the continued accreditation evaluation process.
The site team told a packed board room at the CCC Lone Tree Campus that they will be recommending to the HLC full accreditation for Coconino Community College. The formal accreditation will not be completed until spring of 2012 after the Higher Learning Commission Board reviews the visiting team's report.
In the unofficial exit summary delivered today, the HLC team stated that CCC's community relationships and partnerships along with its strategic planning are exemplary - its' most significant strengths. The team also complimented the College on its integrity with regard to its mission, high quality academic and career curriculum, federal compliance, and financial management.
The team met with various constituent groups over the course of the three day visit including: The District Governing Board, Foundation Board, students, faculty, staff, community members, assessment and strategic planning committees.
CCC staff and faculty spent over two years preparing for the visit by first authoring and submitting a 400 page self-study document. The document addressed concerns from the last HLC visit in 2002, and also examined CCC's strengths and weaknesses from the staff and faculty viewpoint with quantitative and qualitative data to support the findings.
The Commission relies on a cadre of carefully selected and trained professionals who serve the Commission in its accreditation processes. This group of more than a thousand individuals is called the Peer Review Corps. These volunteers share their knowledge of and direct experience with higher education, their dedication to educational excellence, and their commitment to the principles underlying voluntary accreditation.

Brandt, PhD; Vice President of Student Services, Lake Superior College, Duluth Minnesota, Beth Adams, MA; Vice President of Academic Affairs, Lewis and Clark Community College, Godfrey, Illinois, Linda T. Chapman, Ph.D.; Sociology Instructor, Casper College, Casper Wyoming, Chad M. Hanson Ph.D; President, Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College, Shell Lake, Wisconsin, Robert Michael Meyer, Ph.D..
President of Coconino Community College, Dr. Leah L.
