Joe Cornett Wins Viola Award's Emerging Artist of the Year
Faculty Artist Reception to be Held at CCC
Coconino Community College Photography instructor, Joe Cornett, has recently received the Viola Award’s title of Emerging Artist of the Year. He was honored at the 2011 Viola Awards Gala Event in March.
Cornett creates his artwork though the Visual Arts, specifically photography, and is known especially for his night photography. His artist portfolio websites states, “My photography explores the visual and psychological transitions that the elements of night generate within urban spaces. I focus on the stage-like quality that urban environments display when artificial light and darkness clash.”
His work has been featured at the Coconino Center for the Arts, Flagstaff Open Studio Tours, the First Friday Artwalk at Wil McNabb’s, and the Flagstaff Coffee Company. Cornett has taught workshops in photography at the Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy as well. His last exhibition featured in 2010, entitled Shooting Hoops: It’s All The Same, was shown at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass, Colorado.
A Faculty Artist Reception will be held tomorrow at the Lone Tree Campus Friday, March 25, 2011 from 5:00-7:00PM. Pieces from the Shooting Hoops: It’s All The Same and The Night series will be on display in the commons area. So come and support your local Flagstaff artist Joe Cornett and enjoy music, food, and beverages.
