Coconino Community College Nursing Program Certified by the Arizona State Board of Nursing for First Time
Flagstaff, AZ: At the Arizona State Board of Nursing Board meeting on September 23, 2010, Coconino Community College received full approval for a five year period. Since the start of the Coconino Community College Nursing program seven years ago, the Arizona State Board of Nursing has frequently reviewed the success of the nursing students passing the National Council Licensing Examination –Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN) as a measurement of the competency of the program instruction. In cooperation with the Arizona State Board of Nursing, many revisions and additions to class content, syllabus rewritings, and program changes have occurred, all of which have increased the rigor of the program and increased the competency and success of students and leading to certification of the program.
The State Board of Nursing assures that standards of practice are met and that persons engaged in the practice of nursing are competent. It approves individuals for licensure, registration and certification, approves educational programs for nurses and nursing assistants, investigates complaints concerning licensee's compliance with the law, and determines and administers disciplinary actions in the event of proven violations of the Nurse Practice Act.
CCC offers an Associate in Applied Science Degree designed to prepare qualified students for entry-level nursing practice. Upon successful completion of the nursing program, the student will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing and be eligible to make application for licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Arizona State Board of Nursing.CCC also offers a two-part Certified Nursing Assistant program.
