Course: NUR 110, Certified Nursing Assistant, 4 credits |
This course will cover basic concepts common to all members of the health team in
acute and long term care settings. Principles of communication, nutrition, emergency care medical
terminology, environmental safety and comfort and ethical/legal aspects of health care will be taught. Basic
nursing skills based upon fundamental nursing concepts in giving individualized client care will be learned in
the classroom and in practice. A focus on the Certified Nursing Assistant’s role in caring for the adult
patient/resident will be made. Under the expanded role of the Certified Nursing Assistant other opportunities
will be reviewed as well. This class will prepare the student to take the written examination for the Arizona
State Board of Nursing (ASBN). The student must pass this class and the state exam to become registered (or
certified). Prerequisites: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare
Providers certificate, health requirements including evidence of negative TB testing within the last
6 months, verbal statement of having had Varicella (Chickenpox) or vaccination, proof of 2
measles, mumps, and rubella inoculations or blood titer, and Tdap ENG 099 or higher or CCC
administered placement test if not a H.S. or GED grad, CCC student ID number |

Course: NUR 111, Nursing Assistant Clinical Rotation (4-10 hr days), 1 credit (Uniforms are worn only during clinicals. There are a limited number of second hand uniforms available at a reduced price) |
Provides students with the necessary clinical time required for application for state
certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Students will practice basic concepts common to all members of
the health team, acute and long term care settings include basic principles of communication, nutrition,
emergency care, medical terminology, environmental safety and comfort, ethical/ legal aspects of health

ten hour clinical days are interspersed throughout the semester. Prerequisite: NUR 110 with a

The cost per credit hour for the academic year 2007 is $65.00 for a total of 5 credits ($325), plus
fees ($140). You will need to purchase one set of scrubs (dark teal scrub pants, any style, a dark
teal scrub top with CCC student patch on the left sleeve; available at Flagstaff Uniform-corner of
Hunt & Beaver St) to be worn for clinicals only as well as a wrist watch with a second had, black
pens, small note pad and a stethoscope (optional) All students prior to clinical must also
complete Student Orientation Module for FMC. |

How do I get my requirements met? |
American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. This is the only acceptable CPR certification. NAH requires this form of certification and none other. Even if you
have a more advanced form or are told it is the same thing, this will be the only one that will get
you into the CNA/Nursing program. Below is a list of approved instructors or you may find your
own: |

Bring a set of copies of all the above to the Nursing Department when you are ready to enroll. We
recommend that you keep your own set of originals in a safe place in case they need to
be reviewed. An authorized Nursing Department representative will verify your information, we will keep a set of copies, and give you an authorization to register” form that you take to
registration with all fees and tuition. Authorization to register does not guarantee
enrollment in class. Classes are limited to 20 students, first come first served. |
